Mill
Creek is a 1,375 acre new urban village located in Kane County,
Illinois. The development of this project incorporated a pedestrian-oriented
village center into an environmentally sensitive site plan, protecting
and 1.5 miles of the Mill Creek corridor, one of the most pristine waterways
in this region.
Mill Creek consists of 1,900 housing units and a village center with
shops, offices, services and civic spaces. Open space features include
a golf course, regional and neighborhood parks, natural area preservation,
and a bicycle and pedestrian trail network that will link to a county-wide
system and a school site. Nearly 50% of the site will remain permanent
open space for public use.
Benefits of the Mill Creek
concept:
Water Resources
Protection and preservation of water resources is facilitated through
groundwater recharge, reuse of wastewater and stormwater runoff management.
Natural Environment
Preservation and enhancement of the natural environment is achieved
through wetland protection and expansion, prairie restoration, wildlife
corridors and water resource management.
Agriculture
The transition from agricultural land uses was carefully planned to
minimize any conflict between land uses. Development was focus on non-prime
agricultural land to conserve farmland in the region.
Built Environment
Mill Creek is a pedestrian friendly development. Residents are only
a 5 minute walk away from the nearest neighborhood park. Preserving
the natural features, minimizing development along major roadways, and
maintaining significant views enhance the general quality of life throughout
the village.
